I decided to present what I learned about Qi in a museum floor map format because she’s a big fan of the arts and exhibitions. I compiled and gathered all the information based on her personal inventory video and constant inputs on her website, and I interviewed her. The following is my notes on the interview:
- What is that coco in your personal inventory video?
- it’s an actual cacao. It’s for a project to introduce cacao for 5th graders. The Brazilian dude cut the cacao to decorate his fish tank
- Keep track of gallery visits and movie tickets – why are you keeping these items?
- Hobby too keep record. icheckmovie.com. Like a memory, think of the experience. Only kept tickets from MOMA Lincoln centre society. or the tickets themselves are interesting. Broadway tickets. Just have them but doesn’t really go back to look at them in a box.
- You have the arts and science as your inputs – what’s your background and can you introduce it a little bit? Dos this art influence comes only after you move to New York?
- was in teaching major and was a Teacher’s assistant for kindergarten and a student at an elementary school. Cant handle when they fight with each other and got frustrated. Change major to computer science for software.
- Jump to cs : have friends who jump in and told her there are very little people interaction and the salary is good
- frustrated cuz it’s hard and a lot of hw but she liked it. Accomplishment when solve a problem
- Start drawing inspiration from 2 years ago from a friend who’s interested in film and got to gallery. And met more people who’s in the are and galley scene. The more she does to galleries the more fascinated.
- Wants to find the purpose of life. She’s very confused. Kinda help her figure that out. Originally she thought purpose of life is to be happy but the more happy she tries to be but she’s unhappy. Giacometti’s piece inspired her. He’s work makes people feel lonely. And she realized that we don’t have to be happy. We can still create something and still have that sense of self fulfillment
- What’s your favourite show/movie and why?
- No favourite, like mellow drama and sci-fi. Likes François Roland Truffaut, and agnes varda, Hirokazu Kore-eda. Because Agnes: feminist and her movie talks about women rights and society progress; Truffaut is relaxed, and the Japanese director’s movie is about daily life. Sci-fi is fascinating and world in the future and what we might have in the future. And mellow drama is about daily life that everyone has
- What do you want to do after IDM? What are some of the things that you are working on to get there?
- Trying to be a front end developer, not sure what to do with UX/UI but maybe a long-term goal.
- You mentioned in your Kirin Kiki post that you started to have an idea about creating things, what are you thinking of building?
- Want to keep working and create something until she dies, but not sure what that something is. Sure that the life she doesn’t want is that when she’s in 90s and cant do anything. Still trying things out. taking sketching classes
- Got interested in sketching class through a friend, and close to home so she gave it a try. Like how it’s all about self-exploring. Comparing relationships between objects, whats in the front and whats in the back, 3D vs. 2D. That’s kinda interesting to her. Experience of sketching is also about exploring relationships between her and the objects
